We did it!
It’s Sunday afternoon and there’s no place I’d rather write this from than the New York Toy Fair -- where we celebrate reaching our $25,000 goal thanks to YOU, our backers. As of this update there are over 500 of you who believe in this project. And I want to give a HUGE THANKS to each of you: from our first two backers, (Wade & Chris!) to our most recent , (Cynthia) and all the retailers who support us here at the show.
We shared this special milestone with Emily, Rob & Margaret from The Toy Store in Topeka, Kansas. Check out the video!
Press!
The press has been fantastic and we are humbled. Over the last few days, we are lucky to have received coverage from The Huffington Post, Cool Mom Tech, and Popular Photography. Please check out these great articles and give them a like or share.
This is inspiring and humbling and something we never imagined could happen in just 11 days days. Because of your support, we are able to begin production of the Pixlplay camera. It’s ON!!! Your encouragement is appreciated and questions are being heard. We are reading every comment, tweet and suggestion and are trying to respond to all. Check out our FAQs if you haven’t already.
Now what?
We’ve given the green light to our factory to start the production process. We need to finish our tooling and start getting some samples for testing. In a few weeks, we’ll send our backers a survey to vote on the colors. We’re going to start thinking about stretch goals. Your ideas are welcome!
Plus more!
Finally, I continue to meet incredible creators here on the Kickstarter platform. I want to highlight two that you might also find interesting…
The Internet of Mysterious Things is the FIRST EVER children's book with embedded NFC tags. You can tap your smart phone to the pages to pull up more information about the story. The book explains how technologies work using mysterious creatures but allow parents to dive deeper into how the technology actually works with the companion web content. Funding goes through end of February.
Second, I just love the design of this Grid game.
The Grid is a colorful board game that creates beautiful patterns as you play it. Based on the rules of the Dominoes (which I love!), it is a mix between a puzzle and a strategy game that you can play alone or against up to 10 friends.
Thanks so much. Onward!

One Week In
Hey backers! JP Here. When you create something and share it with the world, you don’t know what to expect. There is a whirlwind of emotions: excitement, fear, confidence, and doubt. When I hit the “launch” button (see video on our facebook page), I really didn’t know what to expect. We are now at over $20,000 after our first week and I can’t tell you how good this makes me feel!! Plus, Kickstarter recognized Pixlplay as a “Staff Pick” and “Projects We Love”. Woohooo!
Heading to Toy Fair
We are SO close to hitting the goal because of YOUR support. Seeing your daily comments and sharing is incredible - so thank you. I’ve been busy preparing for the New York Toy Fair that begins this Saturday! Our bags are packed and I head out tomorrow to exhibit at the largest toy show in North America! This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. If you are a retailer, wholesaler or are at the show, please stop by our booth to say hello. We’re in hall 1D, booth 4710. Please keep the support up, I'd love to hit the goal by day 1 of toy fair!!!
Pixl Toys was also accepted into the hardware accelerator, HAX so i’m busy spending my days with a fantastic group of hardware companies here in San Francisco. One of those companies is Ray Baby who I’m happy to say that I’m backing today.
RayBaby
This is the home monitor you never knew you needed. It isn't like any other baby monitor because it monitors your baby's sleep cycles, breathing patterns, and even detects the early stages of harmful diseases like Asthma and Bronchitis. Grab one now for $129 while they're still available (only 4 LEFT)!
Behind every project is a creator and usually a team of people. Another project and creator I came across that I just backed is Handsocks.
Handsocks
This new invention from Casey Bunn combines soft, warm mittens with fling-proof sleeves that keep your baby warm and itch free. Grab a pair over at Handsock's page today for the early bird price of $8 at over 47% off the retail price! You'll get a great product and support another incredible creator.
Some of you might be saying… what are you going to do with two baby products? Well, in other big news, i’m happy to share that my wife is expecting our first baby this July. So, we’re on a bit of a journey here, my friends… Thank you for your support!

JP here. I’m overwhelmed by your response to the Pixlplay camera! Over $12,700 in the first three days is incredible. A HUGE thanks to my friends and family who were among the first backers. Seeing your names brought a smile to my face and really helped kick this off.
We are also super thankful to the great press coverage. Please take a moment to check them out and share the articles:
TechCrunch - "your kids... will remember that moment when you let them take funny pictures with a big plastic iPhone case and smile"
VentureBeat - "At $25, it’s affordable, it works with both Apple and Android devices, and it is aimed at children three years and older."
PetaPixel - "The dedicated Pixlplay iOS app will provide kids with ways to create, explore, and play with their images"
The Toy Insider - "[the] built-in screen protector, adjustable clamp... and rubber grip make it feel like kids are using a professional camera."
Chip Chick - “here is a shutter button that will snap photos when the phone’s camera app is open, making it a great first camera for kids”
Finally, thanks to all 225 of you who have backed at every level. $1. $5. $40. Every bit helps and this is just the beginning. You are helping to make history by supporting this campaign and launching the first in what we plan will become many products that make use of all those smartphones in a way that gets kids creative and active.
Help us by sharing Pixlplay with your friends. And remember, if you use this link to share it, you'll immediately get 2 free activity sheets.
